I am passionate about the British Everest Expeditions of the 1920's. Ever since seeing Mount Everest from the Nepalese side I have dreamed of looking up at the north face of Everest from the Tibetan side. I am so excited at the prospect of this dream coming true when we travel to Tibet in April/May 2016. After travelling overland through Tibet for a few weeks we will arrive at the Rongbuk Monastery where we will stay for two nights. We will be staying in the very basic guesthouse of the monastery which is the highest in the world.
We are hoping to get special permission from the Tibetan Mountaineering Association to walk past the Everest Base Camp and proceed towards the interim camp of the 1924 British Everest Expedition. Of course we are very much aware that extreme height of over 5000 metres will dictate our progress at altitude. I am so excited at the prospect of seeing Mount Everest and the places where my heroes of the 1920's expeditions visited. Below is a photograph of Everest and the Rongbuk Monastery. It is the view we will hopefully see in early May.
It is my intention to write my blog while traveling through Tibet, internet permitting! This is my first ever blog and I hope it portrays the building excitement I am feeling at this moment in time.
